In 1873, theBrits transplanted rubber trees from the Amazon Forrest to the English island.Four years later, 22 rubber trees were shipped to Singapore and the MalayPeninsula then began a vast plantation of rubber trees in 1898. Now more than100 years has passed by and especially with the accent of the industrialrevolution, humans have discovered and developed various methods of rubberprocessing techniques and applications. Looking through the history, rubber hasinfluenced the development of human civilization. Now as it has taken almostevery corner of people’s life in various yet refined forms, rubber continues tomake big impacts on people’s everyday living. BOTH has an intensiverelationship with rubber. The company has been focusing on researching rawrubber materials and developing various rubber products since early on, andextended its works to sports and fashion industries. Through 30 years ofdedication, the company’s efforts now allow us to understand and interpretrubber on a deeper level.
Ourunderstanding of rubber can be traced back to the time God gifts this planetwith rubber trees, and the ivory rubber juice slowly drips out from the barkthat people reflect on mother’s milk or pure paint on canvas. After being curedby smoke, rubber juice turns into solid rubber pieces that without anymodification, they appear to be beautiful art works. While we praise thewonderfulness of the nature and human’s wisdom, we also feel pitiful that thebeautiful rubber, except being industrialized, its artistic value has neverbeen recognized by people. Accordingly, we feel obligated to set the namestraight for rubber, and we also hope to continue its momentum. Rubber is aphysical representation of great vitality and we respect its natural endowment.We aim to restore rubber’s natural beauty, engage its spontaneous transparencyand mellowness with the sophistication and toughness given by the contemporaryproduction techniques, and appropriate elements that may seem conflicted intraditional values. With asincere intention to showcase the beauty of balance, BOTH keeps speculating thecontrarieties and discrepancies in life, exploring nihilism and existentialism,and searching for balanced expressions for these sets of concept. Its logo isselectively composed of circles in a square, further illustrating a philosophy statementbehind the brand –“In contrariety lies the balance.”
